Your vault is encrypted with a key derived from your PIN. If you forget it, the vault cannot be unlocked — we do not hold a copy of your key and there is no "forgot PIN" reset. We strongly recommend storing your PIN in a password manager or writing it in a secure offline location. You can also set up a Google Drive backup before any risk of forgetting.
Yes. Your entire jewellery vault is stored on your device. You can view, add, edit, and delete items with no internet connection at all. Only live gold price updates and optional Google Drive backup require a connection.
Your vault is protected by your PIN and AES-256-GCM encryption. Without your PIN, the data on your device is completely unreadable — it is just ciphertext. Enable Google Drive backup so you can restore your vault on a new device. We also recommend enabling Android's built-in screen lock and auto-lockout for maximum protection.
Yes, Karat is free to download and use with no time limit. We may introduce optional premium features in future versions — if we do, the core inventory and security features will remain available for free.
